How Much Does Google Ads Cost in Calgary and Edmonton? 2026 Click Prices by Industry

Last updated on October 26, 2026 by Ron Reichert

Google Ads in Calgary and Edmonton costs about $2 to $90 per click for most local service searches at the top of the page, and $55 to $180 per click for personal injury law. For 20 leads a month at an 8% conversion rate, most trades and professional firms should plan roughly $1,200 to $8,000 a month in ad spend, and more for furnace repair and law. Your industry, city and targeting decide where you land.

The prices below come from Google's own Keyword Planner, pulled on October 26, 2026 for searches like "plumber calgary" and "family lawyer edmonton". I've been active in SEO since 1993 and manage Google Ads campaigns for Alberta businesses, and this is the same data I check before I recommend a budget to anyone.

Google Ads Cost per Click by Industry in Calgary and Edmonton (2026)

These are Google's top-of-page bid ranges in Canadian dollars: the price range advertisers have paid for an ad to show above the regular search results for each search. The low figure is the cheaper end of the market and the high figure is what the most aggressive advertisers pay.

Emergency dentist$20.36 – $76.54Not enough data
Family lawyer$7.29 – $25.12$4.65 – $15.90
Personal injury lawyer$55.51 – $179.92Not enough data
Accountant$4.68 – $35.01$3.57 – $20.82

Searches marked "Not enough data" had too little history in Keyword Planner to give a reliable range. Three patterns stand out. Emergency searches cost more than their regular versions, because the customer is ready to hire within the hour. Personal injury law is in a different league, because a single case can be worth tens of thousands of dollars. And Edmonton isn't always cheaper: roofing and family law clicks cost far less there, but plumbing and junk removal clicks cost more.

What a Month of Google Ads Costs: Four Examples

Click prices only matter once you turn them into a monthly budget. Each example below assumes you want 20 leads a month and that 8% of clicks become a call or a form, which takes about 250 clicks. The range runs from the low bid to the middle of Google's range, because a tightly targeted local campaign rarely pays the high end for every click.

BusinessLeads per monthClicks neededEstimated monthly ad spend
Family lawyer, Edmonton20250$1,160 – $2,570
Junk removal, Calgary20250$1,370 – $4,170
Plumber, Calgary20250$3,530 – $8,080
Furnace repair, Calgary20250$4,320 – $13,470

Spend goes to Google, not to whoever manages your campaign. Management is a separate fee, covered further down.

Estimate Your Own Google Ads Budget

Pick your industry and city, then set how many leads you want each month. If you don't know your conversion rate, leave it at 8%, a reasonable planning figure for a local service business with a page built for the ad. Your real rate depends on your offer, your page and how fast you answer the phone.

What "Top of Page Bid" Means for What You'll Pay

Google publishes two numbers for each search. The low top-of-page bid is the 20th percentile of what advertisers paid to appear above the regular results, and the high bid is the 80th percentile. They describe the market, not your bill.

What you actually pay per click depends on four things: how much competitors bid at that moment, how relevant Google judges your ad and landing page to be, the bid strategy you choose, and how tightly you target location and hours. Two Calgary plumbers bidding on the same search can pay very different prices, because Google rewards the more relevant ad with a lower cost for the same position.

Where Alberta Businesses Waste Google Ads Money

Most overspending comes from settings, not from click prices. These are the problems I find most often when I review an existing account.

  1. Broad match with no negative keywords. Without exclusions, a plumber pays for searches like "plumber jobs Calgary", "how to fix a toilet" and "plumbing course". Negative keywords block these before they cost anything.
  2. The wrong location setting. Google's default can show ads to people "interested in" your area, not just people in it. A Calgary electrician can end up paying for clicks from Vancouver or Ontario.
  3. Ads running when nobody answers. Paying for an emergency click at 2am that goes to voicemail is money gone. Schedule ads for the hours you can actually take the call.
  4. Sending every click to the homepage. Someone who searched "furnace repair Edmonton" should land on a furnace repair page with your phone number at the top, not on a general homepage.
  5. No call or form tracking. Without conversion tracking you can't tell which searches bring jobs and which only spend money, so the budget can't be steered.
  6. Display and search partners left on. New Search campaigns can include Google's Display Network and partner sites by default. For most local service businesses, that spend brings low-quality clicks.

What It Costs to Have the Campaign Run for You

At internetWorld.ca Corp., a Google Ads setup starts from $1,250 and includes one campaign, two ad groups and full call and form tracking. Extra ad groups are $175 each. Ongoing management starts from $595 a month, month to month. You pay Google directly for your clicks with your own card, so there is no markup on ad spend and the account stays in your name.

Good structure lowers what each lead costs, which is why setup includes the negative keywords, location settings and tracking described above. See how the service works on our Google Ads management page.

Ads stop the day you stop paying. If you also want leads that keep coming without paying per click, ask about our SEO and AEO plans, which many clients run alongside their ads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Google Ads cheaper in Edmonton than in Calgary?

Not across the board. In our October 2026 Keyword Planner data, roofing and family law clicks cost far less in Edmonton, but plumbing and junk removal clicks cost more there, and furnace repair is close in both cities. Price follows how many advertisers compete for each search, not the size of the city. Check the numbers for your own service before you set a budget in either market.

Why do lawyers and dentists pay more per click?

Because one new client is worth so much. A personal injury case or a new dental patient can be worth thousands of dollars over time, so firms can bid high and still profit. In our data, top-of-page bids for personal injury lawyer searches in Calgary run from $55 to $180 per click. Tight targeting and fast intake matter most in these industries, because every wasted click is expensive.

Is $500 a month enough for Google Ads?

For some businesses, yes. At $500 a month, an accountant or fence company in one city can buy roughly 25 to 100 clicks, enough to test a small campaign. For plumbing, furnace repair, roofing or law, $500 buys too few clicks to produce steady leads or reliable data. If your budget is small, advertise one service, in one area, during business hours only.

What does "top of page bid" mean in Google Ads?

It is Google's estimate of what advertisers have paid for an ad to show above the regular search results. The low figure is the 20th percentile of those prices and the high figure is the 80th percentile. It is a guide, not a price list. Your actual cost per click depends on your bid strategy, ad quality, landing page and the competition at that moment.

How can I lower my cost per click without raising my budget?

Improve relevance and cut waste. Group keywords tightly so each ad matches the search, send clicks to a page built for that service, add negative keywords for job, DIY and free searches, and limit ads to the areas and hours you actually serve. Google rewards relevant ads and landing pages with better Quality Scores, which can lower what you pay for the same position.
